Will the real OcabJ please stand up?

The 2018 year started off on a sour note when it came to my attention that my identity has been stolen and used to conduct fraudulent transactions on the East Coast.

Without getting into too many details, there is an active investigation by a law enforcement agency on the East Coast that is well aware of what took place regarding my identity. Based on what I have gathered in my own investigation, it all started in the first couple weeks of December 2017

But I wanted to post a public notice on my own official channels because individual(s) on the East Coast have used at least one email starting with ‘ocabj@’ on other email domain services to pass themselves off as me. I became aware of this because an online retailer contacted me via my website contact form indicating he has been emailing me, but I have not been responding. After I called this individual, I came to find out he was emailing someone using an email address that starts with ‘ocabj’ and my name. The retailer ended up Googling my name and found my website, and came to the realization that I am not the person that made a fraudulent purchase from his e-commerce site.

Anyway, I want to make it known that while I have a few email accounts, there are only two that I will ever use for any sort of correspondence (not related to my day job):

  • ocabj@ocabj.net
  • jonathan.ocab@gmail.com

If anyone online gets defrauded in an online transaction, either as the seller/retailer or buyer, by someone claiming to be Jonathan Ocab, it is not me. Run a check of the email address used by the fraudulent transactor, open a case with your local law enforcement, and provide them the email headers and all the transaction information. For anyone that may have accepted false payment by someone claiming to be me, and found my website and this post, note that I am aware of what has been going on.

This post will most likely be updated as the investigation progresses.

Note: I have a PGP/GPG key pair that I have used to encrypt and/or sign documents. My public key is available as an Armor block either through copying and pasting from below:

Sorry to hear you’re going through the identity theft process. Pain in the fanny for sure. Good luck. Nice Jeep, great color! Looking forward to seeing you mods on it and of course future shooting Blogs….SF Ron

Thanks. Unfortunately, once you’re a victim of identity theft, it’s pretty much going to be an ongoing issue since the data is being traded on the so-called darknet. I just have to clamp down my credit and be vigilant on credit reports.

As far as the Wrangler, I’m still researching various cargo management modifications. I’m looking at the Springtail Solutions MOLLE mounts. But the bumpers and tire carrier are probably my main focus on the external mods. We’ll see.
