VLTOR MUR-1A (2014 Revision)

posted in: Firearms, Gear, Shooting 0

I ordered another VLTOR MUR-1A (with forward assist) from Midway USA because they had them on sale (better than Brownells dealer pricing), and I figured I need to put together a more ‘modern’ 16″ upper receiver.

I opened up the box and noticed that VLTOR produced a new revision of the MUR-1A with different markings than the one I used for my 18″ SPR-style build.

The above photo of the new MUR-1A sidewall shoes a more subtle ‘VLTOR’ logo, whereas the previous revision had a lot more text.

The next change is that the 2014 MUR-1A does not have a Data Matrix code (similar to a QR code) on the top of the receiver, and instead, has the American flag.

The VLTOR sword logo is no longer on the top of the forward assist housing, either.

Here’s a sample photo of the previous revision.

Anyway, if you order a VLTOR MUR-1A with forward assist from a retailer that is new stock, it should have logos like the ‘2014’ VLTOR MUR-1A photos above, and not like the ‘2013’ revision photos.

The packaging of the one I received was sealed with a VLTOR label that had the fine print: “VWS-L0004rev C”.

Other than that, the dimensions and contours of the receiver appear to be the same between the 2013 and 2014 revisions.

Note: Both revisions will be compatible with the Geissele SMR. It is known that the Noveske badged/marked MUR-1A receivers have a wider contour near the barrel end and will be too wide for a Geissele SMR.
