After owning the recently released Apple MacBook Pro 13″ for only a few days, I have become enamored with the unibody casing.
My first Apple was the 12.1″ iBook (G3, white, dual USB) back in 2002. I loved the polycarbonate casing.
I later bought the 15″ PowerBook G4 (Titanium). While it was sleek, I found that the original iBook polycarbonate casing was more rugged and stiffer than the Titanium casing of the PowerBook.
After my PowerBook display hinges broke, I bought the then current 13″ MacBook (single core) which also used the polycarbonate casing. I expected the same stiff rugged feel of my iBook G3, but found the casing fundamentally different in construction and suffered the infamous case cracking issue around the palm rest areas.
Now that I have the new 13″ MacBook Pro, I am amazed with the incredible construction of the unibody design that Apple has come up with. Holding the laptop, you can immediately feel how sturdy and firm the body, with no discernible flexing in the casing.
Apple has a video discussing the unibody casings posted and will definitely make you want to buy a unibody MacBook Pro if you don’t already own one.
