Sweet pack

I have a Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home for regular carry of my camera kit. But I wanted also wanted a backpack that I could take to shooting matches, hikes, and other trips that would allow me to carry my camera, lenses, and other camera accessories, along with sustenance (food and water) and other gear (GPS, iPod, first aid kit, pistol and extra magazines, etc).

I caught an ad on the Canon Digital Forums for brand new Burton 28L backpacks and decided to get one because it looked like a decent pack. I received it last Friday, and I have to say that the pack exceeded my expectations.

The Burton Zoom Pack (aka 28L) is made by Burton which happens to be a snowboard equipment company and this pack was designed with the camera toting snowboarder in-mind. While I have never been skiing or snowboarding in my life, this pack is an incredible pack for even a non-snowboarding photographer.

The main cargo for my intended use of this pack is photography equipment and it definitely holds my gear.

It’s got plenty of room for the body with lens attached, along with three other lenses (one of which is a 70-200 f/4L telephoto zoom with tripod collar attached). I could also fit a flash in here or another lens.

So it holds my photo gear. Does it have enough space for my non-photography stuff? Definitely. The 28L has four other zippered cargo bays along with a mesh pouch for a drink bottle and the rear strapped wings for a snowboard which I will adapt to carry my Bogen Manfrotto tripod. One of the zippered pockets can hold a laptop and holds a 13″ Macbook with room to spare. It should be able to hold a 15″ laptop with no problem.

Basically, I am extremely impressed with the Burton Zoom Pack. I definitely recommend this pack for someone who is looking for a backpack to carry a (d)SLR kit along with other non-photo gear all in one pack.
