From the title and the date/time of this post, you would think I’m here to discuss Manny Pacquiao’s TKO of David Diaz in the 9th round. Ecstatic I may be about Manny’s win, I’m actually posting this with regards to the Angels’ loss to the Dodgers this evening. The Angels lost 1-0, but the Angels pitchers (Weaver and Arredondo) combined to pitch a no-hitter. Yes, you read that correctly. A no-hit loss.
The combined pitching line for the Angels this evening:
8.0 IP (away team), 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 9 K.
Apparently, the Dodgers’ Matt Kemp got on base (1st) via an error. Kemp proceeds to steal 2nd, then makes it to 3rd on the Angels’ Mathis’ throwing error from home plate to 2nd. Then the Dodgers’ Blake DeWitt makes a sacrifice fly to bring in Kemp.
Yes. That is amazing. Come on Halos. Why are you doing this to me? And against the Dodgers no-less?
At least Manny won tonight. Go Philippines!
NOTE: Adding this after reading a recap on ESPN.com. Apparently, since the Angels didn’t pitch 9 innings (away team loss), this does not count as a no-hitter. But nonetheless, this game is historical in that this is only the fifth time (since 1900) that a team has won a game without obtaining a hit.
