After many years of being totally out of comics, I decided to attend Comic-Con because it had expanded to include film and television into the convention. It is definitely the place to be if you are a fan of comics, science fiction, or fantasy because there will be something there of interest to you.
I had the opportunity to sit in on cast and crew panels for:
- ‘V’ remake (and watch the entire first/pilot episode)
- “The Nightmare on Elm Street” reboot
- “Jonah Hex” film adaptation (with Megan Fox)
- “Where the Wild Things Are” film adaptation
- “Book of Eli” (with Denzel Washington, Mila Kunis, and Gary Oldman)
- “Sherlock Holmes” film (with Robert Downey Jr and Rachel McAdams)
- Family Guy
- The Cleveland Show
- Futurama
- The Simpsons
- Tron ‘2’
- Alice in Wonderland (with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp)
- Avatar – 25+ mins of footage (with James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, and Zoe Saldana)
There were quite a few other things I got to see including the entire ‘Green Lantern: First Flight’ and the ‘Trick or Treat’ films.
Walked away with a few free giveaways, specifically shirts and posters, and even bought a few trinkets including two Comic-Con exclusive art prints from Max Brooks’ upcoming graphic novel, “Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks” (which he signed).
All in all, it was a fun event. I am definitely going next year. After experiencing Comic-Con one time, I should be able to plan out my days better at next year’s.
I’ve got an SDCC photo album in the gallery, but here are a few teasers:
Special thanks to Andrew and Yelana for letting me crash at their apartment in Gaslamp from Friday through Sunday.
