I was cleaning out some cabinets a few weeks ago and came across an SPR style upper that I built over 10 years ago – https://www.ocabj.net/18-spr-field-rifle-build-report/
I decided to bring it back out but with an update: I swapped out the Geissele Super Modular Rail MK3 that I got for free in a prize giveaway with a Geissele Super Modular Rail MK18. The SMR MK18 has a RRS dovetail Arca rail milled into the foreend as well as RRS-Lock support.
I ended up using some very old handloads from the early 2010s using my tried and true recipe of 24.0gr RL15, any quality 77gr (or 75gr) BTHP, LC brass, and a CCI BR4 primer. This pushed out the barrel at a hair under 2700 FPS in the 18″ 1:7″ White Oak Armament .223 Wylde barrel (rifle length gas tube).
The rifle continues to be solid 1MOA rifle which is all I really expect from a half decent AR platform in .223 / 5.56. However, I feel that I can probably optimize the loads with updated reloading processes (e.g., Autotrickler) and squeeze more consistency out of the gun.
