A couple colleagues mentioned a short film called Overdrift and I watched it on Youtube.
Overdrift is pure hilarity. It combines the conceptual ideas of Initial D (one of the few anime series’ I liked) with the absurdity of other anime/manga like Speed Racer and portrays it all in live action. The acting in the Overdrift short film has the perfect amount of over the top inanity while at the same time projected in a serious tone providing that great comedic effect. Kudos to the guys who put this short together.
Now if the Speed Racer live action film was put together like Overdrift, I’d be the first in line to watch Speed Racer.
