More anti-gun propoganda in the media

posted in: Rant 0

I just checked CNN.com a few minutes ago and it was hard to miss the headline story about how cops are in an arms race with criminals.

The angle of the article is how law enforcement has to arm itself with AR15 rifles because criminals have more access to assault rifles after the lapse in the Assault Weapons Ban. It goes on to discuss how shootings involving “Assault Weapons” have gone up since the AWB lapsed back in 2004.

The biggest falsity in that article is the implication that the flood or AR15 and AK47 rifles is caused by the end of the AWB. What the article fails to mention is that AR15s and AK47s were always available for purchase during the AWB when it was in effect from 1994 to 2004. Assuming you didn’t live in a State that specifically banned AR15s and AK47s, any law abiding citizen could walk into a gun store and walk out with an AR15 or AK47, assuming that person passed the Federal background check.

As far as gangs coming into more assault rifles than before, you would think law enforcement would do a better job in actually preventing known felons from obtaining such firearms, rather than hindering law abiding citizens from getting them. If a gang member is in possession of any firearm, much less an assault rifle, give that gang member 20 years minimum. If a gang member murders someone, whether it be with a pistol, assault rifle, knife, or in hand-to-hand combat, give that gang member life in prison without parole.

I think it’s a lot more sensible to punish those who commit violent crimes severely, rather than trying to punish the honest and law abiding citizens by banning firearms. But again, we don’t live in a sensible society.

We’re coming into an election year and the liberal media needs to strike fear into the voters so they can get politicians elected into Congress (and the Presidency) so they can ban firearms.
