My friend returned a call to me the other day after work and during the conversation, he had asked me if I knew that an associate of ours, Sergio Carrera, was shot and killed. I didn’t hear about it, but I remember seeing headlines in the local papers in passing of a officer who was shot during a raid. I hadn’t been paying attention to the local news for the past couple days, and it ends up that the headlines I saw were reporting of the same Sergio Carrera.
Apparently, Sergio was taking part of a drug raid last Thursday according to the Press Enterprise, and during what was a reported struggle for another officer’s firearm, shots were fired from that firearm and struck Sergio.
This is a very tragic event and I don’t want to slight it in any way, but I am suspicious of the supposed struggle for the gun. While many things can happen in a dynamic situation like a forced entry raid, the struggle for a SWAT entry officer’s primary weapon seems like a very unlikely cause for another officer to be shot by rounds from another officer’s firearm.
PE reports that there is still an ongoing investigation regarding the shooting incident.
